The Story
FirstDown was built by a team of software engineers based out of Silicon Valley who got tired of losing money betting on their own feelings, following hype picks, and black-box “AI” models that couldn’t explain their own predictions.
After years of building software professionally, we wanted to see if a disciplined, quantitative approach to sports betting could actually work. Not a black-box machine learning model that doesn't provide reasoning. Not an LLM wrapper that generates picks from vibes. Not an opaque "AI" system that can't explain its own predictions. A simple, interpretable model that identifies where sportsbooks misprice games — and proves it with a verifiable track record.
That model became MWave.
What MWave Is
MWave is a proprietary prediction engine that evaluates every game across NBA, NFL, and MLB. It computes win probabilities using team strength modeling, compares those probabilities against sportsbook odds across multiple books, and identifies games where the market disagrees with the model.
Every pick is classified by confidence tier — Strong, Edge, or Lean — based on the size of the disagreement. Strong picks represent the highest conviction plays with verified profitable track records across multiple seasons.
MWave doesn’t use an LLM to decide picks. The model is purely quantitative. AI is used only for generating explanations and analysis — never for pick selection.
